About Doha as Capital city of Qatar

Doha City




The capital city of Qatar, Doha is located halfway down the east coast of the peninsula. It is an important cultural and commercial centre and enjoys excellent communications with the outside world through its modern seaport, airport and telephone links.

Among the attractions in the city is Qatar National Museum on the eastern part of the Corniche. Displaying the geological history of Qatar as well as a collection of Islamic artifacts and relics, the museum has a lot to tell about the country’s past amongst a maritime museum and a small lagoon with traditional boats (dhows) built from wood.

It was an old police station, which has been renovated to become regional museum. It is an anthropology museum and displays also the archeological discoveries from Al-Khor area since the Neoletic age up to recent area.

The Department of Museums & Antiquities has restored one of the town's old buildings and converted it into Al Wakra museum. It displays marine life and natural history materials. Weaponry Museum The museum displays rare samples of swords, daggers and miscellaneous firearms and their accessories.

Situated about 10 minutes away on a boat ride of the Corniche. The Island has children and family amenities, a restaurant, a café and water sports facilities. There is also a jetty for traditional Dhow boats close to Doha Sheraton Hotel on the Corniche waterfront.

About 57km north of Doha on the east coast, Al-Khor is famous for its harbor filled with small craft and fishing boats. It has excellent beaches, an historic tower and interesting mosques.
Halfway along the east coast between Doha and Umm Said, Al-Wakrah is a commercial and fishing centre. The town has an old port as well as a number of old mosques and traditional houses.

Umm Said is the heart of Qatar's industry. Situated 45km south of Doha on the east coast of the peninsula, it has both a commercial port and an oil-exporting port. There are refineries in Umm Said as well as other industrial establishments producing steel, natural gas liquids, fertilizers and petrochemicals. Umm Said also has fine beaches.
