60,000 food lovers sample delights

Doha's largest Food Festival closes the door on Saturday, marking the most successful year yet with more than 60,000 food lovers sampling culinary delights from 75 stands.

Four-day event organized by the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) to see the country's best restaurants and most popular participation activities for visitors including a magic show, cooking demonstrations Japan, a "mystery box" competition and children's entertainment.
 

On the last day of the festival, the gold medalist of the cooking competition, which involved 15 of the best chefs Qatar hotels, announced by the Ritz Carlton Doha, Doha Kempinski, Moevenpick Towers and The Doha Torch took home top honors.
 

Intercontinental Doha was honored with the award "Best Sales" and La Cigale won "Best Design". Ahmed al-Nuami, QTA Chairman, said the food festival brought together the community and showcase the diversity of the population of Qatar.
He said the emphasis on Japanese cuisine, part of the celebration of 40 years Qatar-Japan relations, proved very popular.
 

"The 'Taste and Fun' food festival is fast becoming a landmark community event in Doha," said al-Nuami. "It's important for the QTA to bring these events to the community. Not only do visitors enjoy food and fun entertainment in record numbers, they also had the opportunity to sample dishes from other cultures who are all trying to promote cultural awareness in our community is very diverse."
Al-Nuami also thanked the festival sponsors include Jungle Zone, Askar Industrial Company and Worldwide Tents and Halls.
