‘Fly-In’ of Al-Khor Hopes to Inspire Next Generation in Future


Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) last week joined Al Khor Airfield Fly-In with the Museum of Flight (MOF) from Seattle, Washington, home of world famous Boeing Company. 

Fly-In, which attracts more than 5,000 visitors, provided a window for the aviation industry - particularly in Qatar and the Gulf area, where the market for aircraft plants and offers a unique place for those with privately-owned aircraft to take part. 

Director of education department of finance, Seth Margolis, spoke to was impressed with the response to some of the most popular aviation outreach program. "It's great for the local hunger for more information about our industry, especially on such an interesting change in the future will bring."Al Khor event, now in its fifth year, has grown in popularity, and organizer intended to make it a permanent annual educational outreach program. 

It is hoped that the Fly-In will motivate Qatari men and young women to take a career in science, engineering, and technology in the future, with particular emphasis on the flight.This year's event highlighted many aviation activities in Qatar, including Qatar Flying Club, Qatar Sports Qatar Aeronautical College and Aviation Authority. 



Qatar Civil Aviation Authority is also providing focused view on science behind aviation technology.Several educational programs are offered continuously throughout the day, including the 'Flying Gizmos Show', which is designed to teach the entire history of aviation using a toy only. 

The second program, titled 'Robotika', challenging the participants to develop their own unique 'Mars Rover' in less than 30 minutes with only a box of parts and the instructions are very basic. The workshop is intended to mimic engineering projects the future. 

The third educational program involved developing a flying toy from the paper, which allows only 15 minutes for participants to develop and successfully flew their design. The model includes straw rockets and airships, among other creative flying object. 

More than 1,200 young people participated in the manufacture and testing of their aircraft. Visitors also fly around the airport as a passenger and had to share control of the aircraft with the pilot.
