Louise Bourgeois Exhibition in Katara Doha Qatar |
Louise Bourgeois (1911 – 2010) is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Conscious and Unconscious is the first in-depth study of her work to be exhibited in the Middle East, and showcases 32 pieces spanning sculptures, installation works, gouaches, and fabric pieces dating from 1947 to 2009.
In a body of work dominated by dualities and polarities – active and passive, male and female, figurative and abstract, geometric and organic, mother and father, murder and suicide – these individual pieces represent both different psychological states and the conscious form giving way to unconscious impulses, wishes, and fears.
Accompanying Conscious and Unconscious is a major catalog publication featuring a foreword by Sheikha Mayassa, a title essay by the curator, Philip Larratt-Smith, text by Sophia Al-Maria, a full-colour plate section of the works, and an illustrated chronology of the artist’s life and work.
